Born from Burnout

Me with the boob burger I had made for breastfeeding education

Hey, friend.

I'm Jaime. I am a licensed midwife, owner of a birth center, and as of Fall 2024, an online educator.

Catching babies is a pretty cool job, but if I'm being honest, my favorite thing about midwifery has always been the teaching. I love it so much I centered my entire clinical practice around education.

We've talked for a while about putting our classes online, but being a midwife is time consuming. But the time has finally come, and we're really excited to share what we love with a larger community.

Jump to Recipe

Let's start with a little bit of house keeping.

You know that thing where you search for a recipe online and have to scroll through a story about why these lemon bars are extra special because of something about a lemon tree that was saved from a 12 alarm fire? Well, according to my research into blogging best practices, if you want to show up when people search for things, your blog posts need to have a lot of words.

So, similar to the handy little 'Jump to Recipe' button on recipe blogs, these posts will have a short and to the point section at the beginning, with a table of contents to jump to different areas if you want to do a little bit more of a deep dive on something.

And just so we're clear: it's not that I don't know how to write a lot of words about reproductive health care. I just understand that sometimes you just want what you came for. So you'll get the info, and if you want to dig deeper and find out more about the why, you can find that, too!

Short and Sweet - an official welcome

Welcome to Midwife, Unfiltered.

If I'm being honest, I'm a little out of my element as a blogger. For a long time, everything I've written about pregnancy and birth and reproductive health has been very profesh and academic, but I am excited about getting casual here! I hope for this blog to be a friendly, comfortable space for people to find info and a sense of community.

I'm big on evidence and honesty, so you can trust what you find here. That said, I'm also human, so if you see something wrong on this blog, PLEASE let me know. My passion for teaching is rooted in an even bigger passion for learning things. So, if you send me a question, need clarification, or have a correction, my ADHD brain will 100% go on a deep dive and respond.

The plan right now is to share 1 post a week, but as I get my feet wet and get more comfortable, I plan to add more. My goal is for this to be a trusted place to get information about reproductive health and birth, but expect some rants and humor, too.

The first course - Childbirth Education - launches in 2025. There are some exciting things in the works and I can't wait to share them with the world. My core values are based on the principles of autonomy and informed consent and helping empower people to navigate the many decisions that they will face. You can check out a preview of the content on our courses page.

All of the courses we create will include digital downloads and guided worksheets that will help you apply what you learn to your personal situation. But, if you aren't ready to signup for a full course, they'll be available as individual purchases as well.

We'd love to hear from you, also!
